Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has said that the Ballon d’Or award should be two sections.
The 52-year-old manager also stated that a section of the annual football award organized by the French News Magazine (French Football) should be presented to seven-time winner, Lionel Messi.
“I always said that the Ballon d’Or had to be two sections. One for Messi and one for the others,” Guardiola disclosed as quoted by sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano.
When asked if Erling Haaland deserves to win the 2023 edition, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich gaffer said: “We won the treble, he scored a million goals. I’d love Erling to win. But Messi… Leo won the World Cup.”
The 2023 edition of the award will be the 67th annual ceremony – and is slated for October 30, having announced the nominees on September 6, 2023.
